Subjects

Oxbridge; UCAS; History A-Level & GCSE; English, French, Latin GCSE; 13+ & 11+.

I tutor a wide range of subjects and levels aiming to encourage and enthuse my students.  I have considerable experience of successfully preparing boys and girls for 11 Plus, Common Entrance and pre-tests for London days schools, and boarding schools; I cover all the requirements including interview practice.  My proven track record for 11 Plus & 13 Plus Common Entrance preparation is also one of my specialisms; my rigorous approach emphasises developing exam technique, cogent essay writing, and repeated application of knowledge to appropriate questions.  Some of this work has been helping dyslexic children overcome their difficulties.

My degree was in Ancient and Modern History from Oxford, so I specialise in teaching History at GCSE, A-level and undergraduate level, but I also teach English, Classics and French up to GCSE level.

As a product of the system myself, it has been rewarding to guide Oxbridge candidates through the process, and I have been focusing particularly on assisting French students with their Oxbridge applications.  I also provide more general UCAS support for all disciplines.  At this level tutoring is collaborative and dynamic, drawing out an individual's strengths and passions for their subject, and helping them to present themselves in the most postive and mature way.

However, I believe that successful tutoring is not simply academic preparation, but should encompass the holistic well-being of the student, so that their frame of mind is positive and their physical energy at its optimum.  To relax and reassure anxious students I offer mind-body techniques such as breathing and visualisation exercises, and can suggest other therapies, remedies and nutrition to help achieve balance and calm.
